Welcome to Manukau City & South
Over 70 per cent of visitors to New Zealand arrive at Auckland Airport in Manukau. Manukau is ‘Where New Zealand Welcomes the World’. And it has always been so. The area was first settled by Māori making the long journey in waka (canoes) from their Polynesian homeland. These early stories of migration and settlement are depicted in the intricate carvings of Pou Kapūa, situated outside the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.
This part of Manukau has the most ethnically diverse in the City, with around 50 per cent of the population being either Māori or Polynesian. It also has a diverse range of activities, from a range of manufacturing activities, including prize winning vineyards, to the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa. Further afield, going south, takes you to the rural areas of Franklin and the picturesque Awhitu peninsula – all within an hours’ drive from the Airport.
